Britten’s Saint Nicolas

Britten’s Saint Nicolas

Sun, Dec 7 @ 7:30 p.m.

Details

Opus 7 Vocal Ensemble is thrilled to bring back our holiday tradition of Benjamin Britten’s St. Nicolas in the splendor of St. James Cathedral! Come experience this semi-staged production with 100+ singers, instrumental and vocal soloists, historic vestments, piano, organ, and a twenty-piece chamber orchestra comprised of students and professionals. This spectacular cantata tells the story of St. Nicholas of Myrna who performed many miracles including calming the storming seas, saving innocent men from an unjust death, and resurrecting three pickled boys (yes, you read that right). St. Nicholas’ famous generosity and kindness towards the poor and children is the basis for our modern-day Santa Claus. Come hear the true story of the Greek bishop as you experience Britten’s musical masterpiece in the Cathedral’s beautiful acoustic. This concert is not to be missed!
