Plymouth Church United Church of Christ
About
Nestled in downtown Seattle, Plymouth Church United Church of Christ stands as a striking example of modern sacred architecture. Completed in 1967–68 following major earthquake damage to its predecessor, the structure was designed by the firm NBBJ.
The building is composed of three distinct volumes — a circular chapel, a rectilinear office/hall block, and an oval-shaped sanctuary. The sanctuary is particularly dramatic: soaring concrete walls punctuated with decorative openings and tall glass sections on the west façade offer sweeping city views and a luminous interior atmosphere.
Beyond worship, Plymouth Church welcomes a wide variety of events. The sanctuary accommodates weddings, concerts and large gatherings, with excellent acoustics, stained-glass windows and a historic pipe organ.
